Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences (RCEES), Chinese Academy of Sciences, China
Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, formerly the Institute of Environmental Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences founded in 1975, is the first comprehensive research institution engaged in research on eco-environmental science and technology in China. In 1986, authorized by State Science and Technology Commission and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), it was amalgamated with Research Center of Ecology of CAS and was reorganized into Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences of Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter abbreviated to RCEES). In June 1999, it became a part of the Pilot Project of Knowledge Innovation Program of CAS.
Currently there are 457 staff in RCEES, including 5 academicians, 93 research professors, 114 associate professors, 108 assistant professors and 47 junior researchers or administrators working in various areas. There are 11 research departments or laboratories including three state key laboratories ( State Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, State Key Laboratory of Aquatic Chemistry, State Key Laboratory of Urban and Regional Ecology), 8 departments for administration or management and other sections.
Being one of the key educational base for graduate students in CAS, RCEES offers M.Sc program in environmental sciences, ecology, environmental engineering, environmental economics and environmental management, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and population, resource & environmental economics; Ph.D program in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, ecology, and environmental economics and environmental management; and provides postdoctoral program in environmental sciences and technology and biology.
RCEES has successively carried out the frontier researches on environmental chemistry, environmental science, and systems ecology since 1975, and has done some pioneer, foundation-laid and creative work on the environmental background survey, acid rain investigation, environment safety assessment, water pollution control, environmental behavior and ecotoxicological effects of persistent organic pollutants, theory of complex ecosystems, national nature reserve construction and many other environmental issues in China. It made historical contribution to the development in the eco-environmental sciences and technology in China. After being a part of the Pilot Project of Knowledge Innovation Program of CAS, oriented to the demand of the nation for eco-environmental protection and construction and international fronties, RCEES has further made discipline rearrangement, optimized the construction of innovation teams, strengthened innovation capacities, and enhanced the international cooperation scale, and gained an unprecedented rapid and healthy development. There is a great increase on the quantity and quality of research publications and invention patent applications. It conducts much more large research projects. The national and international cooperation becomes much wider and more active. The education capacity for graduate students is also developed, and the competitive capacity is enhanced significantly.
The main purposes of RCEES are to carry out some national and international research projects in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, systems ecology and environmental biotechnology, to advance the science and technology nationally and world widely, to provide fundamental data in ecological and environmental sciences for governments and to offer some applied high technology to enterprises. RCEES has set up a number of academic relationships and links with some well known institutes or academies in many countries. Several important international conferences or symposia on eco-environmental sciences have been held here and many visiting scientists, scholars or students are bilaterally exchanged every year. -
Xi‘an University of Architecture and Technology(XAUAT), China
Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT) is located in the famous historical and cultural city of Xian. To its far south is the world-famous Big Wild Goose Pagoda, built in the Tang Dynasty, adjacent to the north, is the renowned city wall of the Ming Dynasty. The university covers an area of 3,100,000 m2, including a construction area of 900,000 m2. The campus is picturesque and charming and is permeated with a rich academic ambience.
The origin of XAUAT dates back to 1895, the year when Tianjin Beiyang School of Western Learning (Beiyang University) was first established. Over the years, the university pooled together the earliest elites in the disciplines of civil engineering, architecture, and municipal engineering in the history of modern Chinese higher education. In 1956, in the third nation-wide restructuring of universities and colleges, the school was named Xi'an Institute of Construction Engineering after integrating and amalgamating departments of civil engineering, architecture, and municipal engineering at the Northeast Institute of Technology, Northwest Institute of Technology, Qingdao Institute of Technology, and South Jiangsu Technical School. The school was renamed Xi'an Institute of Metallurgy in 1959 and subsequently Xi'an Institute of Metallurgy and Construction Engineering in 1963. On March 8, 1994, approved by the Ministry of Education, the school adopted its present name, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology. It is now widely recognized as one of China's most influential universities in the field of civil engineering and architecture. -
Zhejiang University (ZJU), China
Zhejiang University is a prestigious institution of higher learning with a long history. It is located in Hangzhou, a famous historical and cultural city and scenic resort in China. Qiushi academy, the predecessor of Zhejiang University, was founded in 1897. It is one of the first new colleges and universities founded by Chinese people. In 1928, it was named national Zhejiang University. During the war of resistance against Japan, Zhejiang University moved westward, ran schools in Zunyi, Meitan and other places in Guizhou Province for seven years, and returned to Hangzhou in the autumn of 1946. In 1952, when the colleges and departments of national colleges and universities were adjusted, some departments and departments of Zhejiang University were transferred to brother colleges and universities and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The main part left in Hangzhou was divided into several single subject colleges and universities, and then developed into the former Zhejiang University, Hangzhou University, Zhejiang Agricultural University and Zhejiang Medical University. In 1998, the four universities with the same root and the same origin merged to form the new Zhejiang University, embarking on a new journey to create a world-class university. In the 128 years of school running, Zhejiang University has always adhered to the fine tradition of taking "seeking truth and innovation" as its motto, and gradually formed the common values of Zhejiang University people of "diligence, morality, discernment, and faithfulness" and the spirit of Zhejiang University of "embracing rivers, enlightening truth and morality, developing things for the people before them, and building our country". -
National Engineering Research Center of Urban Water Resources (South)
Shanghai National Engineering Center for Urban Water Resources Development and Utilization Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "NERC") is the legal entity of the enterprise for the construction and operation of the National Engineering Research Center for the Development and Utilization of Urban Water Resources (South). The company was established on August 16th, 2006.
The Since its establishment, the NERC has focused on the major technical needs of the national and Shanghai water industry, focused on the development and recycling of urban water resources, focused on the actual needs of urban water supply and drainage security, water ecological environment improvement, water resource pollution control and efficient use of engineering technology, carried out the development of key technologies, system application integration and results incubation and transformation, built a scientific and innovative high-tech enterprise, formed market-oriented businesses such as technology research and development and services, water quality monitoring and evaluation, digital water and intelligence, engineering consulting and services, and scientific and technological product transformation, and provided technical support and services for the comprehensive development and utilization of water resources.
