Shanghai SMI Raw Water Co., Ltd. is a specialised company for the development, utilisation and protection of Shanghai's water sources, as well as the production, operation and management of raw water, formerly known as Shanghai SMI Raw Water Co., Ltd. which was established in 1992. in 2006, the company was restructured into a state-owned enterprise through asset replacement and reorganisation, and in 2014, it became one of the core enterprises belonging to the Shanghai Water Group. The company has seven main operating units, including Huangpu River Raw Water Plant, Changjiang River Raw Water Plant, Songpu Raw Water Plant, Qingcaosha Raw Water Plant, Qingcaosha Reservoir Management Branch, Raw Water Pipeline and Drainage Management Branch and Jinze Reservoir Management Branch, and manages and operates the three major raw water systems in Shanghai, namely, Chenhang Raw Water System, Qingcaosha Raw Water System and Jinze Raw Water System, with a capacity of 13.1 million tonnes of raw water per day. It has a raw water supply capacity of 13.1 million tonnes per day. It supplies 8.4 million tonnes of high-quality raw water to 35 waterworks in the city on average per day, accounting for 98% of the city's raw water supply, and its water supply covers all areas of Shanghai except Chongming Island, benefiting a population of about 25 million, with the overall scale and water supply capacity the largest in the country, and it is the ‘source’ enterprise of Shanghai's water supply industry.

Technical Innovation Center for Drinking Water Safety Assurance Project of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural Development was approved and established by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, with the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design Research Institute as the supporting unit, and in conjunction with the Ecological Environment Research Centre of the Chinese Academy of Sciences , the Tsinghua Suzhou Institute of Environmental Innovation, Tongji University, Zhejiang University, Shenzhen Water Affairs (Group) Co. Ltd. and Shandong Urban Water Supply and Drainage Water Quality Monitoring Centre, through the integration, optimisation and enhancement of resources, the formation of the industry, academia, research and use of engineering and technology innovation platform.
Based on the major strategic needs of national drinking water safety and security, the centre takes technology integration and innovation and results transformation and application as the core, focuses on the whole chain, cycle and elements of water supply, and is committed to promoting multidisciplinary and multi-industry collaborative innovation, realizing major technological breakthroughs in key and common issues in the field of drinking water safety and security, promoting engineering application, operational operation and industrial promotion of technological achievements, and promoting deep integration of industry-university-research and application, and striving to establish an industry-university-research-use engineering technology innovation platform. It strives to become a comprehensive service platform for the research and development of drinking water safety and security technologies and the transformation and application of achievements with international influence, to promote the high-quality development of housing and urban-rural construction, and to boost the construction of the national technological innovation system and the construction of a new type of think tank with Chinese characteristics.

Established in 1935, the Macao Water Supply Company Limited is a private enterprise in Macao which provides safe, reliable and quality water supply service.The company was restructured in 1985 (SUEZ is its parent company) and signed a 25-year water supply concession contract with the Macao Government. The superb water supply service during the period has earned the company a renewal of the “Extended Contract for the Concession of the Public Utility Service of Water Supplying in the Macao SAR” in 2009, valid for 20 years till July 2030.
